Testimonials

“Ken was recommended to me by three of his previous high school students, all claiming that he was the best math and chemistry teacher they ever had.  This has proven to hold true.  Ken is able to make a true connection with his students.  He tutors with skill, teaching and explaining the lesson in a clear manner that ensures a deep understanding and a mastery of the material. His dedication is unparalleled and students feel confident in their knowledge and their ability after working with Ken.”

I have worked with Ken Doran for most of my teaching career as a public school educator. I had the pleasure, as Ken’s colleague and program leader, of observing the calming effect Ken had on anxious math students over most of two decades. Ken’s organized, funny and invariably kind approach helps to make the challenging accessible, and the previously obtuse, clear and relevant. (He’d probably make a triangle joke about obtuse too!). I have always described Mr. Doran as “the math teacher I wish I had had in high school.” It isn’t an exaggeration to say that when students expecting to find that Ken wouldn’t be their teacher, I would have a revolt on my hands. You will be lucky to work with Ken – but don’t trust me, try for yourself.

Michael Alex, School Curriculum Leader

“Ken was the best tutor I could have asked for! He helped me with Calculus, Advanced Functions and Chemistry. With difficult concepts, he figures out the root of confusion, and then he explains it in a way that makes sense. I felt comfortable asking questions that I would have felt were too “stupid” to ask in class. It’s clear he genuinely cares about his students and their success. He is patient, dedicated, and kindhearted. I could not recommend him enough!”

“Please consider contacting Ken should your secondary-aged child require a math or chemistry tutor. Ken is experienced and highly skilled at multiple level instruction. He is engaged, attentive and has the highest level of integrity. I have worked with Ken at two different secondary schools and seen his work with students in the Interact Program. Ken is a wonderful teacher and your teenager will benefit from gaps that may have grown in these challenging times.”

Janet Allen, School Administrator

“Ken’s knowledge and enthusiasm for every subject he taught, and for teaching itself, sets him apart from any other teacher I have ever had. If there was a way to quantify how good an individual is at teaching, I would place Ken within the upper echelon of educators. He genuinely changed my perception and overall understanding of each subject he taught me. He inspired me to become not only a better student, but a better person. I cannot extend enough gratitude towards Ken, as a person, and as a teacher. Each student passing through Ken’s class will be given an unmatchable experience and an extreme and deep understanding of the subject they are being taught while being treated with the utmost respect and courtesy.”

“Thank you for working in such a great way with [our son] this year. Beyond being a skilled math and science teacher, you have really inspired him to take his own abilities and potential seriously, and to work hard to improve, for which I am eternally grateful. As a teacher myself, I know how gratifying it can be to impact someone’s idea of their own capabilities, and you should know you’ve had a formative impact on [our son].”

“I just started my first year of University and am taking Chemistry.  We have only had a few lectures, but everything has been very familiar review for me.  I just wanted to thank you for being an awesome teacher and giving me a strong foundation going into university.  I also thank you for being so accommodating during my grade 12 year.  The support was so amazing for me and I am forever grateful.”

Haley Green, student

Lee Anne Liberta, student

“Thank you so much for being such an excellent math teacher. I’ve never had a math teacher before who was as kind, patient, and light-hearted as you.”

Sam Weinstein, student

“Thank you for being an ear when I needed a distraction, an awesome co-worker who understands how much teachers SHOULD love math and the teaching of it, and for spending hours on end talking about how adorable the students were this year!”

When people are asked “What was your favourite subject in school?”, the answer is often gym or art. My favourite subject, then, and still to this day, is math — something I completely attribute to Ken. Along with his kind and patient nature, Ken always found a way to keep all students interested and engaged, even through the most complex lessons. Furthermore, my high school experience with Ken made for an easy transition into university, as I had built a strong foundation of math. I could efficiently and confidently solve a problem using tips and tricks taught by Ken. I am reminded of him often when called upon to solve a difficult math question arising among family and friends. I would 100% recommend Ken as a math tutor!

Irene Ho, teacher

Axel M., student

“Thank you for all your help in math over the years. Although it has never been a [subject] that I am particularly fond of, your teaching style really helped me to understand and to actually enjoy math! I am very thankful that you took extra time to answer my questions. You are a great teacher and I know many students owe their success in math to you.”

Sarah Barrable-Tishauer, student

“It’s been a pleasure being one of your students. You’ve definitely taught me more than just Advance Functions this year. You imparted a better work ethic, confidence to tackle difficult tasks, the realization of the type of learner I am, and cheesy jokes! I never really clicked with teachers until I met you.”
